Challenge

Bellomy sought to understand customer awareness and preferences regarding their utility’s energy mix and perceptions of various energy sources. The goal was to assess customer priorities for energy sourcing and their understanding of renewable and carbon-free sources.

Solution

Through one of Bellomy’s Utility Heartbeat Polls, customers across multiple utilities were surveyed about their knowledge of energy mixes and their preferences for different energy sources

Results

Limited Awareness but Clear Preferences

While 59% of respondents were unaware of their utility’s energy mix, a significant portion expressed a desire for their utilities to incorporate renewable sources, with about half or more favoring solar, wind, and hydro. Additionally, 45% supported the inclusion of natural gas, reflecting a preference for a balanced mix that ensures reliability.

Understanding of Energy Sources

When asked to classify various energy sources as renewable and carbon-free, respondents correctly identified renewable resources more frequently. However, there was less accuracy in identifying carbon-free sources, indicating a need for further education on energy classifications.

My favorite feature is the ability to apply custom topics from one dataset to another. Since my industry is such a unique space, this feature allows me to have a starting point for all projects and saves me considerable time. For the first time last year, we presented powerful content to business stakeholders to help improve our product offerings.
